Tour Description

The tour leads you around the Royal Docks, the world’s largest impounded body of water and one of London’s greatest regeneration opportunities.

Recently declared an enterprise zone and supported with a renewed energy from the public sector, this area is scheduled for dramatic change leading up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where the ExCeL exhibition centre is an important venue, staging a number of events and medal ceremonies.

The tour begins at Gallions Reach DLR Station and concludes at Custom House DLR Station.

Duration: The tour is approximately 3 hours long, although a short break is available half way through the tour at Thames Barrier Park.

Your Tour Guide: Marc Clark is your guide. Marc holds a masters degree in Urban Regeneration and has worked extensively within the Royal Docks helping shape a number of the projects that you will hear about today. Marc lives locally and is passionate about the potential of the Royal Docks.

Public Transport: There can be disruption to London’s public transport network and you are advised to check the Transport for London website (www.tfl.gov.uk) to ensure that there will be no delays to your planned journey.

Weather: The tour will go on irrespective of weather. Please note that the docks are very exposed and can experience strong winds and feel decidedly cooler than other parts of London. Please ensure that you have suitable clothing.

Terrain: The footpaths are mainly flat but as the area is emerging there can be uneven pavements, cobbles, puddles, mud and therefore care and suitable footwear is required.
